Born in South Wales, Steve started to have classical guitar lessons at the age of 10.
History
He first started to play the bass guitar at the age of 15 playing in a band with some school mates doing covers from the likes of T.Rex, Cockney Rebel, Slade, Bowie and Brian Ferry.
In 1978 he turned pro with a M.O.R band doing holiday camps on I.O.W and branched out to the mainland in Cornwall.
In '84 Steve liked Cornwall so much he moved down on a permanent basis and a few years, later whilst filling in for various local bands did a gig with 'The Red Lester Band' where he met Dan and Keith.
The gig went so well that he was asked to stay and he ended up joining the band.
In June 2001 Steve, Dan and Keith branched out on their own to form 'Blue on Black'.
Equipment:
Steve plays a Warwick Stremer Jassman Bass and also a natural finish Music Man Stingray Bass (bought new in 80) and uses elite stainless strings.
His stage gear is a Carvin Red Line Bass Stack comprising of a Carvin R1000 Bass Amp, Carvin RL210T Top Cabinet and a Carvin RL118 Bottom Bass Cabinet.
Extra bits he uses are a nady wirefire transmitter and receiver, and a korg toneworks DTR-2000 digital rack mount tuner.
All gear except the music man (which was bought on the I.O.W in 1980) was supplied by Mansons in Exeter, (a fantastic and very helpful music store, thanks Ralph.)
