Big BlueHi Ross,

Great to see you too on Sunday and it was a good gig wasn't it.

Ah the Chicken - yes the boys have been a little cautious with him recently(I guess its all this Bird Flu) but rest assured he still has a significant role to play in the Bands future.

A role that will probably involve mayo' if they have anything to do with it !

Hope to see you again real soon.

Ross G.Fantastic gig in St. Ives on sunday, there was not a foot in the house that wasn't tapping along! Thought the acoustic songs worked well - a great start to the 2nd half, who'd have thought that a drummer could sing so well! ;)
Loved the ending of 50 bucks, thought that sounded great.
Let's have some more of the chicken in your sets too!
12/11/2007 10:09:48

You're no doubt by now relaxing with the pasty in one hand and the jar of scrumpy in the other - anyway keep on rocking and I look forward to more of the same A S A P.

John the KeysThanks guys for another almost obscenely enjoyable night at the Union. Shouldn't be allowed really. Like I said, well worth every millimetre of the 210 miles - ( or ??? kilometres...?) Will try to catch you somewhere in the country during your world tour in October - Does the UK know what it's in for, I ask myself..
18/09/2007 00:48:25
Roger Davis - www.radioseagull.comHi Guys,

I was at the gig at Sussex Farm, Burnham Market, Norfolk, on Weds 22nd Aug 07 enjoyed your set very much indeed, in fact I wish your band had been headlining - great songs... my sort of music, I said to my girlfriend that some of your music reminded me of the Walter Trout band... not knowing at the time that you have close association with him and his music.

I will be promoting your CDs/gigs etc on the Dutch rock station Radio Seagull, where I present radio shows on Sunday/Wednesday nights.

The Station covers a wide area in Holland on 1602khz AM.. based on a ship in Harlingen harbour, they also broadcast via the internet at
www.radioseagull.com From 6pm UK time each evening the station is broadcast in English.

Best Wishes

Hi Keith, Steve & Clive,

Just to say what a great sound you guys make -
I've already played the CD a number of times. I'll pass it round my friends and hope they'll
appreciate what a fine sound 3 men can make, despite, as in last night's case, the rain, wind, etc.

Thanks also for your generosity towards the NSE - it's a great organisation, and we are also very indebted to Russ Promotions.

I look forward to hearing you again soon,
Cheers,
Liza

Big BlueHi Phyl & Dave,

God bless you both for your messages, as usual we wouldn't be able to keep going without friends like you.

I know Alan will really appreciate the last bit (we're stil in contact having taken to writing regulalry just so we've got something to keep !) as he regulalry checks the site from his French Hideaway.

Keep on Rockin guys
(I can remember that gig like yesterday, part of that crowd of onlookers included two policemen in a patrol car who were both doing a "Wayne's World Bohemian Rhapsody" impersonation - fantatsic stuff !).

Big BlueHi Ade,

Very Good Question !

In fact you are not the first person to enquire about getting hold of a copy of the Tavistock DVD.

So quick as a Flash (we use the term "Dreckly" down ere' - its a bit like manyana but a lot less urgent !) the guys have lept into gear and are looking into costs/permissions etc.

Get back to you soon (I hope !).

Big BlueHi Ade,

It was Keith who told me to mention Grimsby, something to do with a long standing joke ?

I might have known though, he even argues with vans Sat Nav !

Allow me to correct his Geography - Ade from East Yorkshire., it was still a Bloody long way!

Glad to have you as a friend Ade.

Big BlueHi Ade,

I know the guys were knocked out when you turned up for their Elme Hall gig last Sunday.

Thanks for making the long drive down and back.

It was a great atmosphere wasn't it with friends like you Rockin' to the Band's new line up as they played the last of their four inaugural gigs with all the Fire and Passion of a Band with several tours under their belts.

It was a fantastic 4 days (as anyone who turned out will know) and we are all looking forward to the future.

Thanks again for your support, we will wear it ..... etc.

Ad YrkshireWell, what can i say

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The drive down from EAST Yorkshire (lol), was like a walk down to the end of the garden, when you consider it against the reason for the journey.

You could not have sounded better, and as for Clive. Holy Shit can he play the drums.

Keith and Steve were faultless, but then that is what I expected ;-). For Clive to pick up where Alan left off must have been a daunting task, but he sailed through it.

Can' wait to catch up with you again, but hopefully we will be drinking something more exciting than RED BULL!!!!

Playing the cd all the way home, and it sounds awesome. Just need to repair the bass speakers now.

Well, signing off now, till the next time

Big BlueAhhhhh, (Stretch, Yawn ) Morning Everybody !

Yes John we all arrived home safe @ 5.00am and were very glad to find somewhere to lay down for a few minutes - even though your head still replays that "Lancaster Bomber " impersonation over & over in your ears, or is that Tinitus ?

The Band had a great time though and can't thank Fans like you and Ade for example who travelled almost as far as them - enough.

I still can't believe that you travelled all that way up from London and Ade travelled all the way down from Yorkshire just to see this lot !!!

Seriously though, the Band are very appreciative of your support, and making friends like both of you is a very big part of why Blue on Black just goes from strength to strength.

On behalf of the three wise monkeys - thanks again for all the encouragement and support the Band continues to enjoy.

Big Blue

Ps. Clive was bloody good wasn't he(especially considering he had only a few hours with a CD before his first gig - Fantastic stuff !!!)

John the KeysSorry to disturb you guys as you must be catching up on your beauty sleep after your long hike to the Far East and back, but just had to say that was another cracking bunch of gigs this weekend. Young Clive is thumping them tubs like a good'un and the band can only be poised on the brink of stardom, if there is any justice. The CD is a winner - my neighbours are banging on the walls in appreciation. Isn't that kind?..

Al Kaplan www.bluesrockers.wsKeith,

I have got to say your latest Live CD - In Transit is one of the best CDs I have purchased in a long time (and I buy a lot of them)!

I am also a reviewer for the Bluesrockers web site and hope to review this CD in the very near future.

Do you plan on making your other CDs available through CD Baby? If not, what is the best way to get a copy of them?

Thanks.

Big BlueHi Jem,

It was a great gig last year wasn't it ?

Were n't you the lady that I was talking too who was so nearly wearing that fabulous Blue Dress if so Hi Again (if not woops !).

Yup - the guys have been asked to kick start The Festival again this year and boy are they looking forward to it

They are due on around 2.00pm - playing from the main "Skittle Alley" stage , what more can you ask for - BBQ to your right, bar behind you and Blue on black main stage - wow.

Then its a quick dash to Tavistock for us all after there set, as the Guys have been asked to open for The Larry Miller Band at The Wharf, Tavistock in the afternoon.

So all in all it will be a great weekend, hope to see you there and preferably in/out of that little Blue Dress, erh You that is not me - ( well why should the guys get all the fun ?) !

Big BlueI thought it worth publishing this recent communique and response - just in case anyone else is similarly anxious !

Message received today :-

Wotcha geezers

It's John the keys. How come Ents24 has got you guys down as doing a gig at the Horns, Watford on Sunday 26 August at 3pm. Do they know what they're on about? Shurely shome mishtake guv, as you're in Cornwall that evening??!! You have personal helicopters? Or is there another Blue on Black? Life is just one big mystery.

I shall endeavour to lay my hands on one of these nice little compact disc thingies bearing the recorded sounds of your good selves a.s.a.p.

Toujours le rock, as someone once said.

John

Response:

Hi John,

As usual you are absolutely right, there are two Blue on Black's the other one being our evil counterparts who are destined to rule the democratic state of Ma................well no, - actually its just a cock-up !

We were originally looking to play the Horns on that date but the ad was a little premature and admin' @ Ents 24 are sometimes a tad slow in responding to change - sigh !

But we are at The Lifeboat St Ives Cornwall as you correctly surmised.

Like Lord Baden Powell said " Always trust in the website gig (girl) guide as being up to date - unless of course its wrong, dib, dib"....

SO sorry about any confusion but Life, after all, is just a Minestrone, wrapped up in Parmesan Cheese !

See you soon

Keith

Chris da bassHiya guys... What can I say ! Thanks for your friendship and hospitality, sharing a stage with us at Wadebridge and St Austell and putting up with the general mayhem that is the Cuillin Blue on the road experience ! There is a true affinity and mutual respect between the two bands and it certainly shows each time we hit the stage together and jam... Wadebridge may take some time to recover !!!!!! Talk soon and can't wait until the next time... Take Care boys

John the Keyshi Guys.. Well, got home from wet Cornwall/Devon in one piece but who cares about the weather - that was a blinder of a gig at the Union. A cracking debut for the new line-up - well done Tony, you played a good 'un my son. The communication within the band and the 'chemistry' was a sheer joy to watch. That's how a band should work!. And in the shadow of Mr Brunel's wonderful bridge..what more could one ask?! Meanwhile..A sneak look at ents24 tells me you're at Watford - my neck of the woods - on 26 August - 3.00? Fine if it is as I have a gig myself that evening - tell me more. Keep rockin' ..John

Warm welcome to Tony, I'm looking forward to hearing your contribution and hopefully that will be in person sometime this year.

Best wishes to all x

David CohenDear Keith,

I can only wish you, Tony, Steve and Alan an ongoing fulfillment in life, even though changes can be difficult.

Tony will have a hard act to follow, but he'll doubtless fit into your groove wonderfully.

We all look forward to seeing you in Salcombe and give Alan our fond regards.

David

Richard Boyles (President of the Walter Trout Fan Club)We are SO SORRY to hear of Alan's illness and please pass on Brenda and my sincerest wishes for a speedy recovery and hopefully a return to drumming which I know from our many conversations is a passion in his life.

If you remember a similar thing happened to Bernie Pershy when he was playing with Walter and he was told to stop drumming immediately and Bernie is now back drumming.

We really hope the same happens for Alan.

As for the band, I wish Tony all the best with a very hard task ahead to take over from Alan.

Keep on Rockin' Richard
21/05/2007 11:42:14
Phyl & DaveHi Keith, Big "thank you" for your "e" but shocked and SOOOOOO sorry to hear of Alan's ill health and retirement from the band.

I have to say that no one but NO ONE can attack drums like him.....apart from being a brilliant musician,he ,like yourself and Steve are TRULY such nice, decent guys.

At the end of the day though,it's his health that matters and given the choice,I think he has done the right thing.....BUT, he will be sorely missed,BIG TIME.

Glad you have managed to get another drummer as it would be such a shame for the band to fold now that the gigs are going really well....so here's wishing you all THE VERY BEST....Blue on Black to continue knocking the audiences out with such great music, and for Alan ,that his health is soon restored.

Please give him our best wishes too.
Take care

Andy ArthurI'm very sorry to hear about Alan. I hope you are going to be OK, it's a bummer to have to slow down but it's better than the alternative!

Obviously doctor's recommendations are to be taken seriously so I understand completely
and you do have a punishing set after all.

So good luck to you all I hope it works out.
See you soon at either the Union or the Rashleigh.

I'd just like to say that in forty years of pub gigs I have rarely seen a talent like Alan's and never seen a blues/rock band as good as you lot.
Cheers!

Gary BennetsKeith,

Just want to say we were sorry to hear the news about Allan. I,m not very good at this sort of thing but just want to wish him all the best for the future.

We sure are going to miss the " looney" but I guess not half as much as you and Steve will.

Please wish him all the best from everyone in the East Roche Massive and tell him we,re thinking of him.

Greig AdamsonHi
Sorry to hear about Alan's poor health and that he has to leave the band. Alan is amazing to watch and hear and will be greatly missed. I hope that every thing works out for him in the future and that it's not too long before the animal takes back his sticks!
Nice to hear of the new boy, if he is only an eighth the drummer, he still be wicked!

Mary & John MarchantDear Keith,
Please wish Alan the very best of everything and a very healthy future. Having lived in Brittany for nearly 11 years we can thoroughly recommend the peace and quiet of the Breton coutryside with the less stressful pace of life. Your new friend and drummer sounds a very good choice and we look forward to hearing Blue on Black Mark 2 when you are next in East Anglia.
All the best Mary & John Marchant (saw you at the Parkside, Long Sutton).
21/05/2007 11:21:10
John Sanger (Keyboards)This is just the saddest news, about Alan - I had no idea he was in any other than the rudest of good health.

This must have have been a heart-wrenching decision for Alan, and, like many others of the band's devotees I'm sure, I would ask you to pass on to him my best wishes for a speedy recovery and all the best for the future - may he return as soon as possible to the job of demolishing that Yamaha kit, somewhere..

Having said that. I will continue to support the band, in person whenever circumstances permit and in spirit at all times! I was anyway planning to come to the Union, Saltash next Saturday, and although there will no doubt be a tinge of sadness at the passing of an era for the band, I shall look forward to getting another fix of the incomparable Blue on Black rock'n'blues.

Best wishes to Tony on joining the band, to you guys and, especially, to Alan..

Big BlueThe Band would like to apologise to all the genuine people who leave messages on this Guestbook for the mindless ididots who seem to have nothing better to do than clutter the pages with meaningless junk.

We could make the message board less user friendly to prevent these morons from accessing it , but we don't think thats the right reaction to a problem that is clearly theirs.

Please do not be put off by these sad individuals and continue to post genuine messages as we do read them all.

Thanks again to all the normal people out there for taking the time to read this and to leave genuine mesages for the Band, they really do appreciate it.

Greig AdamsonHi Big Blue
Thanks very much for the advance copy of the new live CD. Excellent with a capital X. I may sound daft to say it, but it's got the whole live feel and buzz that you get from one of the gigs. I am fortunate to have a very large sound system which I need to appreciate The Rocks bass, Alans excellent thunderous sticks and Keiths amazing guitar work and vox. Highlight for me has to be Confidence Man. I had to turn up the radiator as the shivers going up my spine cooled the lounge down to a freezing point. A fellow muso of mine was listening to the CD and couldnt believe Blue on Black are a trio. The reproduction is so good that I actually had a live band in my living room. Im just half way through Texas Strut and I think the neighbors are appreciating it too. The only critic is that it wasnt long enough. Oh well, Ill just have to play it again!

John SangerHi Guys, my names John, keyboard player of note (quite a few notes in fact) You may, or more likely may not remember my ugly mug and minimalist hairstyle, to put it delicately, came to see the band 3 times in 2005 (Wadebridge/Heacham/Wisbech) . Glad to see the band coming on in leaps and bounds quite rightly so in my humble opinion. Im beginning to get withdrawal symptoms.

The end of April looks like a bit of a World Tour of East Anglia for you ! I shall make it my business to come to the 26 and/or 27 April are they both public gigs ?

Anyway I look forward to seeing the wonderful Blue on Black then, ears duly prepared.

Cheers guys and keep on rockin.

Nigel MinayHi Guys. Thanks for a really great night's entertainment at Bury Met. A superb gig. I was well impressed with you all & Alan's drumming was awesome. It was a pleasure to meet you after & I'm glad Kelvin of Cuillin Blue talked me into coming to watch you. I've seen a lot of gigs over the past couple of years from big names to total unknowns but Saturday's performance by both bands was one of the best I've seen for a long time. Keep it up. Nigel
12/02/2007 10:15:55
Big BlueWell, another fantatsic weekend away with the Boys and their good mates Cuillin Blue.

The Met rocked to two great sets from the Bands and as Chris says an awesome Mega Jam as a Climax.

This left the near capacity audience, on their feet appluading (some hastily replacing dropped Jaws) following the breathtaking musicianship from all invloved.

I can only say that this was a night not to have been missed ranging from White Hot Blues Licks, through Scorching Rock and spellbinding R & B.

I know I won't be alone in counting down the days until June when we will be treated to a repeat performance this time on Cornish Soil.

So to Marsha, Chris, Kelvin, Rick, Peter, Alan, Steve and Keith - we salute you, we were definitely not worthy.

Cuillin BlueHi guys !!!

What can I say ... both gigs were awesome !! The Met gig was mega and our jam at the end was something special.. as you said both bands are on fire ! It was a very hectic 36 hours with two gigs, a few drinks, two mega jams, a few drinks, the music shops, a few drinks, tour of Manchester and er .... oh yeah ...a few drinks !!! Diving Duck in the Met jam was the highlight for me, with Keith and Pete swapping guitar licks, Steve and Rick driving the rhythm , Kelvin and myself assaulting various guitars and keyboards and Alan generally being disruptive from Stage right , Man that stage burned !!!!!!!

Look forward to getting down to Cornwall in June to play two or three dates with you and bring on Return of The Mega Jam.

Hope you had a safe journey home.... I guess six hours in a car with Alan, could probably qualify Keith and Steve for a Care in The Community Award of some kind !!!! Cheers guys !!
11/02/2007 13:27:51
Rob Worden and Toni JohnsonJust a quick message to say a huge 'Thank-you' for agreeing to play at our wedding at Carnglaze Caverns in September. It will be the icing on the cake (excuse the pun!) for the most magical day ever. See you in the Bridge On Wool in March, Thanks again.
11/02/2007 09:26:36
Rick LaceyI have sent out pre -gig warnings to the whole of Lancashire but they still want to see you guys this weekend! There is no accounting for taste, is there?

We can't wait, it should be a brilliant weekend and we have even arranged for extradition for Alan from Leeds to Ramsbottom.

See you Friday!

Big BlueHi Sammy A,
Funny you should say that we are back in Wisbech in April (please check out the gig uide for details) but not at Elme, however we are heading back to play Charters in July and might be asking Elme if they have a free date then ?

Keep in touch Sammy - The Live CD due out any day now, has some Elme Tracks on it and they sound fantastic.
04/02/2007 18:39:46
Sammy-A - Cambs. Is there any chance you guys will be playing Elme Hall, Wisbech again?
04/02/2007 17:29:05
Chris - Cuillin BlueSee you guys a week on Friday ... We are going to make that stage burn boys !! It's the return of The Mega Jam ...Aye Up !! ( ignore Angry of Ramsbottom by the way ... he has had a chip on his shoulder ever since they threw him out of The SAS for being too aggresive !! ...Sleep tight.... then again after three bottles of JD you usually do ...Ta Ta ...from up in't frozen North !
31/01/2007 20:03:26
Angry of Ramsbottom !!!Dear Keef, Alan The Shedbuilder and the other geezer they call " The Rock " ... I am disgusted that they are letting you reprobates over the border again after the last time... The Toyota Dealers has now closed permanently, the so called ' mega jam' you and that other lot hoisted on us was nothing short of debauchery ! As for those nice Cuillin Blue people, what are they thinking of associating with such rowdy's. I listened to them being interviewed on Radio Lancashire on Sunday night and they missed the chance to issue a health warning ! Anyway you may as well know I have placed snipers on the bridges on the M6 , so watch it ... and another thing !!!
31/01/2007 19:58:11
Mark Jeeves - Planet RockHi Keith and thanks for the CD's.
You're a very tight band, all excellent musicians, and you play well together. The slide playing on King O Spades is excellent! It's a good album.

Den GibsonAs I may have said at Falmouth the other night, ive seen many bands in my time and as my own favourites play the best guitar ever, Steve Hillage, John McLaughlin, Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore and my fav of all time, the great late Frank Zappa, who I saw live at Wembley some years ago now, your well up there with those names.
Stan, my mate and I both agreed, you can really play and the whole band sounded brilliant, very tight, excellent.

Thanks again and, will definatly see the band again, have a good Christmas and great New Year.

Den.

Big BlueHi Tom,
Nice to hear from you again (The next Fan Newsletter will be out very soon bye the way so don't forget to add your name/email address to the distribution list if you want to keep up to date with the Breaking Blues News !).
The Band have been trying to get some East Anglian dates organised for a few months now but so far things have frustratingly conspired to prevent it from happening, however, we hope that our recent partnership with Farm Promotions (Alan Fish) will help to resolve his very soon.
Keep watching this space for further information.

Manager - B & Q Bury Branch ...Well said young feller.... I noticed that the one with glasses was wearing a Zildjan tee shirt....could they be from Yugoslavia or even worse...St Colomb !
24/04/2006 21:03:48
Operations manager - Bury Toyota DealersI can't help but sympathise with your previous correspondent, who obviously knows his Balcocks from Elbows!
Friday is usually our busiest day of the week but we were bereft of any trade (& were faced with sending four of our staff home for nervous conditions) due to the maniacal antics of those three clowns in a hired transit.
Quite apart from carrering round the main arterial roundabout for what seemed to be hours, the language and odours issuing from the vehicle was beyond belief !
Obviously the three of them had nothing better to do than cause chaos, they should get themselves a decent pastime such as learning to play in instrument or two..
If they are ever apprehended, I would suggest that they are boiled in their own Black Pudding
24/04/2006 20:04:12

Take care lads, as usual, you have made a lot of new friends up here in't frozen north. Our Cornish gigs in July can't come soon enough and I assume you are up for a repeat of mega jam at one of them !!!

KeithHello again Sophie, we’re so glad that you’re’ back,
Posting more rhymes to us here at Blue on Black.
It makes all our days, when people like you,
Takes time to write, or phone or just say Halloo.
Apologies are owed to you, we had no idea,
The circles you move in, influence and steer.
You must feel the pressure and we quite understand,
With commitments like this why you can’t see the Band.
Still all is not lost as I’m sure we will see,
You’ll come to a gig - eventually.
Until that time comes, don’t give up or lament,
Of receiving acknowledgement for your talent.
But first we must overcome a small difficulty,
We would need your address, to send a CD
However it’s important to protect your I.D.
So post it via our guest book for security?

Keep in touch
Keith

KeithHi again Sophie, I hope you're keeping well ?
The T shirt that you mention would be size XXL.
Now I'm sure that's too big for your delicate frame,
so I won't bother you with the suppliers name.
As far as Band gigs go, please check out this site,
We always add every show, so you can turn up on the night.
And after all this we should speak face to face,
Instead of limiting our chats to the realms of Cyberpsace.
So hope to see you soon for a Red Hot Blues Attack,
Keith, Alan and Steve the Boys from Blue on Black.

Big BlueHi Phil,
Yes I am afraid we have had to postpone the three January 2006 Gigs due to an unforseen family situation.
We will let everyone know just as soon as they can be re-arranged.

Big BlueThe Boys all say Hi Shazza and look forward to seeing youin January as well.
They were also chuffed to bits with your Christmas Greeting, up until that point, Steve had been going around saying "Bah Humbug to anything that moves", Keith had been seriously eyeing up the Fairy on top of next door's Christmas Tree and Alan ( a tear in his eye) had been sat with his toes in the grate repeating "God Bless us - everyone" - thank you again for making their Christmas complete.
Big Blue

KeithHi Alan, Thanks for your very kind email and for wearing one of our shirts. It was the first thing I noticed from stage whilst I was waiting in the wings to come on for a jam. Walter invited me up after we opened up for him at Tavistock the week before, so I didn't get a lot of notice myself (just as well really!) - but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I hope it was OK as I was too focused on not cocking it up to really appreciate what was happening. A friend of mine did manage to get a few photo's though so at least I can reminisce when I'm too old to play any more !
Kind regards and see you on the circuit - Keith.

Thank you so much for your kind message, your patience with the Boys and most of all for not reporting them to their care attendants when you found them rambling in Morrisons yesterday.
They would love to see you at any of their Mad , Bad and Dangerous to Know" tour dates whilst they are in East Anglia.
Please check the Chicagos date however as that may change.
Kind regards on behalf of the Boys
