20th June 2009
After some long and hard soul searching, Steve has departed the Band to concentrate on his health without potentially putting it at risk by prolonged periods of gigging/touring both home and away.
He did not want to get to a point where he felt this might let the Band down or hold them back and the Band certainly did not want to contribute to the increasing rheumatic problems he has been bravely coping with in both his left and right hands.
This was a very hard decision for all of us yet so typical of Steve's selfless attitude and it goes without saying that he is wished all the very best by the Band and Blue on Black fans alike.
Although Steve will be missed, he remains a very close and best friend and plans are already underway for at least an annual get together with Keith & Alan to gig with this lineup.
So far the guys are looking at putting a set together for this years "Helstonbury" charity Festival in late July so watch this space for further details.
We will keep you up to date with Steve's developments as and when they happen, because like Alan, we know he will be back on stage in the near future (he's far too good a player not to be laying down that solid, sledgehammer of a bass line for another outfit).
Meanwhile.....(In through the Out Door)
After some considerable searching, the Band has been lucky enough to find a new Bass player in Paul Arnott.
Paul is a great player in his own right (a different style from Steve as you might expect) and after previous stints with various R&B, Blues and Soul Bands in the South East and Outer London, moved to Cornwall, playing with "Witchdoctor Blues Band" and "The Regulators" to name but a few
Paul brings his own style and personality into the Band as it looks to move onwards and upwards.
His playing experience and empathy for the Band's music is both passionate and infectious, please come along and hear/see it for yourself.
Details of Paul's history, influences and the gear he uses, will soon be made available via the Bands website which brings us to some more good news.
The Bands new website is well underway and looking great.
It is hoped to launch the site very soon so please bare with us in the meantime.

An update and a plan...
12th December 2008
First and foremost, thank you all so much for your very kind wishes over the past few months, I'm only sorry that I wasn't around/capable of responding to you earlier myself but life has been rather hectic and un-predictable lately!
As you are probably aware I was rushed into Intensive Care on the 18th of June with a severe blood disorder (totally out of the blue, no warning signs or anything ).
Having defied the forecast of a 1/10 chance of making it through the first night, the Hospital I.T.U staff worked miracles on me and eventually, after a few months I was diagnosed with a fairly rare form of Leukaemia, for which I am still receiving Chemo' Therapy treatment.
The Hospital had to let me go eventually as I was looking more and more like Papillon by the day, and since then I've been flourishing at home with things progressing quite well (although a lot slower than I would like).
I have yet to regain the use of my left hand which is a legacy of some of the drugs used to increase my blood quality /pressure etc. at the time and will certainly need a minimum of 7 months further Chemo'.
All of this has made planning for the band etc. very difficult and so we reluctantly cancelled the remainder of 2008 gigs, still things could have been a lot worse considering the alternative.
Our latest plans are based upon the middle of next year (2009) before the Band will be out gigging again and promoting our new Studio C.D. "Suckin' Out Venom" which will contain 12 new original songs.
Things may change, but I'm determined to get the Band back on the road on top form and better than before so this timescale, although frustrating, is probably realistic.
We have already started to book Festival and Club dates from June 09 onwards and are looking forward to getting back on the road!
I hope this helps as an update and I will endeavour to keep everyone more informed as things progress.
In the meantime we'd like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas - we hope you have a safe and enjoyable one :)
Best Wishes
Keith

A Message from Keith!
27th August 2008
Hi everybody, great news - I came out of hospital on Friday 22nd August to continue my recovery from home.
Still more treatment to come but feeling very positive.
Thanks to everybody for their support and I will see you on the road as soon as possible.
A Small Update
4th August 2008
Just a quick update to let you know that Keith is progressing well and is looking forward to hopefully leaving hospital by the end of the month.
Many thanks for all your messages and well-wishes, it's great to know that Keith is on the minds of so many!
*** News - A Message from Alison Howe ***
21st July 2008
I am aware that there has been some speculation as to the nature of Keith's sudden illness, so I thought the time is right to give you the following information:
On Wednesday June 18th Keith was rushed to hospital with a very high temperature and low blood pressure, he was then immediately transfered to the I.C.U where they discovered Keith had an infection that had entered his blood stream and was attacking his vital organs. His immune system had also been affected and was unable to fight the infection. Consequently he remained in the I.C.U for the following two and a half weeks.
Keith was moved from I.C.U on Monday 7th July, although as he is still high at risk of infection he is in a room on his own and at present visiting is restricted to family members only. He is making positive progress but there is some way to go yet.
It has been an extremely difficult time for our friends and family and I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for all the messages, cards and e-mails we have received, the response has been overwhelming. I would especially like to thank Clive and Steve for all the help and support they have given to our family. I will keep in touch with regards to Keith's progress.
Love from Alison, Kathryn and Sarah.
*** News Update ***
11th July 2008
Some good news - Keith is now out of intensive care and is making progress. Alison and family would like to thank all who have sent goodwill messages of support and we will of course keep you posted on Keith's recovery.
*** Important Announcement ***
27th June 2008
As some friends of Blue on Black may be aware, on 18th June Keith became seriously ill and was taken into hospital and is still very poorly. It is a difficult time for Alison and family and although we are sure many people will want to send their best wishes PLEASE do not phone their home as we will keep you up to date on Keith's progress via this web site.
For any urgent enquiries please contact Clive on 01503 272535 or Steve on 01736 350014.

Listen to a Seagull whilst you watch the Tube!
Well its not surprising that lots of pictures are turning up from the Boys October tour (some of which we have been fortunate enough to secure County Court Judgements to prevent them from being published on grounds of Taste) and these have been hastily added to their photobucket site (please check out http://www.photobucket.com user name keithhowe ) for you to peruse/copy etc. at your leisure.
However, we are also receiving Videos of some of the guys performances, which of course the guys would also like to share.
So check out You tube when you are feeling suitably brave, for Videos of the Bands

Fabulous stuff and as if that wasnt enough, you can catch tracks from the Guys this Sunday 11th November 2007 from 8.00pm UK time on the Dutch Radio Station Radio Seagull when our good friend Roger Davis plays at least 4 tracks from the Bands latest Live CD In Transit on his show.
You can tune in on 1602 AM or on line at http://www.radioseagull.com - the shows are broadcast in English and are very well worth listening to as they also feature a great mixture of Rock, Classic Rock and Blues from the likes of Focus, Deep Purple, Golden Earring etc.
SO please help yourself to these sound bites and picture shows courtesy of the Boys, well it is almost Christmas you know, and let us know if you have enjoyed them via our guestbook.
Thats about it for the moment but we do have some BIG News coming up shortly so please keep checking out the website, you wont be disappointed.

Back from the Lands End to John O Groats Tour !
As October slowly fades away, the Band is reflecting warmly on their excursions up to Scotland and back last month whilst promoting their new Live CD In Transit.
Ten gigs and 3,329 miles in 14 days saw the guys Burnin down the House in both new and familiar venues, including opening for the mighty Walter Trout on four occasions and making lots of new friends.
Mind you, the guys were kept in the Rock and Roll luxury lifestyle they are certainly not accustomed too, by travelling in the Mercedes 709, 8 Seater, Splitter Van and Driver supplied by Leads to Music email leads2music@aol.com or telephone the mobile No 07850113356 if you need a great Van and Driver for your Band, you wont regret it.
Amongst other things, it meant I did not have to miss out on my Cocoa or Songs of Praise whilst we were away, fantastic stuff.
Three of the new venues for the guys were The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen, The Barrels in Berwick and Blaydon R& B club - all great nights with lots of CDs sold to new Blue on Black fans, fabulous !
So the guys and me would just like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to see them and bought the new CD.
We all had a blast and as promised, we are now concentrating on the new material the guys will be recording for release early next year.
The New CD, titled Suckin out Venom will feature at least one collaboration with a great guitarist and good friend of the Band, plus the possibility of releasing a re-recorded double A side single, showcasing Angel on Hold and Black Cadillac.
This follows the many requests and great response the boys have been getting to these numbers when played live?
I wont say any more about the new CD and tunes at the moment but promise to get back to you in the next few weeks to let you know how things are going.
In the meantime heres a few photos, courtesy of our good friend Kenny Money and Drummer Clive Edmondson, to keep you amused whilst the tyres cool down and we all catch our breath, please enjoy.

There are many more photos which we couldnt find the room for here but please check them out on the http://www.photobucket.com site under the use name of keithhowe.
As always, see you on the road and Keep on Rockin.

Smoke us a Kipper, we'll be back for Breakfast.....
The starting gun goes off tomorrow morning and the Blue on Black, In Transit Tour Bus will head off into the East, North, South, and eventually back into the West of the U.K. promoting the Boys new Live C.D. funnily enough called In Transit, how spooky is that?
Ten gigs in the next 14 days spread between Penzance and Aberdeen, including two special openers for the mighty Walter Trout will help spread the good word, so please get along to make sure they behave themselves, I cant be behind them all the time you know, although that is by far the best place!
Anyway, whilst making last minute preparations over Coffee and Toast this morning, they were startled by the post box moving, very slowly at first but then it snapped quickly shut, as the October copy of the Fab Mag, Blues in Britain http://www.bluesinbritain.org dropped into the Blue on Black communal Marmalade pot.
As I normally open all there post, its easier that way as I am the only one who can read, I quickly flicked to page 3, I mean page 24 to check out the New CD reviews and low and behold this is what I found.
I couldn’t scan the original copy Im afraid as it ended up looking too much like a Ransom Demand after Keith got very excited and gummed the magazine quite badly, well it did have Marmalade on it ! so rather than try a restoration project on the article I have reproduce it here courtesy of Blues in Britain:
Blue on Black In Transit.
HIJOe Music
You could describe Blue on Black as a bunch of struggling musicians, still promoting themselves and releasing their own work while holding down day jobs.
The Sound they create appears anything but a struggle. It is an absolutely revivifying, effortless joy.
Following Turning Up, released in 2005, In Transit intersperses three self penned works with an eclectic mix of covers recorded at venues visited by this Cornish three piece in touring around Britain.
One such cover is the prodigious Blue on Black. Initially delicate, the song describes a rich arc of emotions through the exquisitely inventive, oh so evocative plucking of Keith Howe. Another is Confidence Man. Howe’s chopping guitar gets things off to a sharp, invigorating start. After a change down, Alan Ibbotson on drums slowly picks up the pace once more and then, once in high gear, Howe rips into his guitar like a pack of wolves into a carcass. Another exhilarating epic is Magnolia.
Ah hell, there are so many great numbers that I give up.
If you like your Blues to have both soul and guts, youre in for a treat.
And if you have any influence at a record label, damn well get this lot signed up.

What can I say! Excellent stuff the boys were suitably humbled, just something else to tell the Dr. about now, but do we love Fran and all her staff or what !
And if having the C.D. reviewed alongside Chris Duartes and Robben Fords wasnt good enough, getting a whopping 8 out of ten was enough to send them crazy, or should I say crazier!
In fact they were all so excited that they immediately went out and bought a copy of the C.D, each ! Well they are not at there sharpest before 9.00pm bless em.
So there we are.
Dont be the last kid on your block to own a copy,
Please get along to one of their forthcoming gigs and buy a copy or, if strangers and loud noises really scare you, log onto http://cdbaby.com/cd/blueonblack and buy or download till you drop, they cant touch you for it.
Of course you wont get the additional stickers, signatures, abuse etc. if you buy on line so its really worth making that extra effort to see the Boys live, I did many years ago and it hasn’t affected me one little bit!
Hoping to see you all at a gig near you in the next few days.
Big Blue
Ps: As we are away for the next 14 days it will take a little longer to reply to emails and messages the Boys get, but please be patient as they will force me to read each one, many times over, and then type out there replies. Sheesh !
As always, see you on the road and Keep on Rockin.

Jam Today and maybe Jam Tommorrow ?
The Phoenix gig was a fabulous night for both Bands all round but the Jam between Walter & Keith was certainly a highlight.

And with at least two more gigs with Walter to come before the end of the month, who knows what will happen ?

Out of The Phoenix into the Hall
This weekend bore witness to two fabulous nights of Blues Rock with the boys opening for Walter Trout at The Phoenix Arts Centre on Friday and again at The Hall for Cornwall, along with The Hamsters as well on Saturday.
Friday nights crowd were very responsive, thoroughly enjoying both Bands sets plus an extra special treat when Walter invited Keith on stage for an impromptu slow blues jam with both players trading licks and entertaining the crowd with question and answer solos, great stuff.
And just as people thought that would be hard to beat, along came Saturday evenings Truro Rock & Blues Concert at The Hall for Cornwall with Walter, The Hamsters and of course our very own intrepid heroes.
BBC Radio Cornwalls David White the compere for the evening, welcomed the boys onto the main stage to rapturous applause and the guys proceeded to belt out a stonking opening set.

The 900 plus audience loved every minute of it and were very well set up for the rest of the evenings entertainment of Hamster power and Walters master class guitar blues.
If the rest of this months gigs are anywhere close to the last two days I will have to get me some Valium !!!
Hoping to see you all at a gig near you in the next few weeks.
As always, see you on the road and Keep on Rockin.

The past few months have also seen the Live CD selling brilliantly via Gigs, the Bands Website and CD Baby.com with sales nearing 500 and a second pressing on the way.
Meantime the Guys are writing more material for the new CD due to be recorded in December and release early next year.
Well that about wraps up this chapter, See you out on the Road Blue on Black fans,
Big Blue.
Great White? No just a Great Gig !!!
While some people were gazing seawards for a glimpse of our local JAWS celebrity, a packed house sat spellbound at The Fabulous Lifeboat Inn on the Harbour front at St Ives, Cornwall to watch Blue on Black burn the house down last night.
I must say that the new line up just keeps going from strength to strength and the few hundred locals and holiday makers alike didnt know what hit them as the powered through two blistering sets of Blues/Rock.
By the end of the night and to a standing ovation and a Black Cadillac encore and lots of CD sales, the Band left the building after making many more friends from all over (Switzerland, Australia, Manila for example) and having set the scene for their next performance at the venue in September during the St Ives Fringe Festival.
Phew, it was a warm night to start with but it ended up feeling like we had watched a Regulo 7 performance so must go for a lie down in a cool dark room now and recoup before Wadebridge on Saturday, cant wait.
As always, hope to see you all on the road.

The Doctor will see you now .........
Doctor, which Doctor ?
Yes thats right, The Witch Doctors Groove Doctor.
Well The Band have finally settled into their new line up after saying good bye to Tony who did a fantastic job in the interim of Alans retirement and who despite moving on still remains a good friend.
They would also like to thank all the other fantastic drummers who auditioned with them and those who did not even get the chance to.
However, its with great pleasure that the Band would like to officially welcome Clive -The Groove Dr. - Edmondson as Blue on Blacks percussionist.
Clive spent 6 years in The Witchdoctor Blues outfit touring, gigging and building a very creditable reputation drumming, singing and organising the Band who played their own brand of Blues.
You can read more about Clive on his own Biography page within the website.
The new line up gigged for the first time last weekend when they ripped into East Anglia for four nights of awesome playing, enthusiastic receptions and jaw dropping audiences.

Thanks again for all of the wonderful people who continue to support the Band at their gigs including Andy and Tracey, Don and Shayna, Greig and Corrina, John the Keys, Jimmy, Steve, Kenney, Margaret and Kay and the many others whos names are to numerous to mention, we appreciate you all.

Talking of tremendous support we had the fantastic honour at our Elme Hall Sunday gig, to meet up with our dear friend Ade Smith who travelled all the way down from Grimsby just for the afternoon show, thanks again Buddy and for some of the gig photos as shown on the site.

Despite only having a few hours rehearsal, they played with all the tightness and understanding of an outfit with several tours under their belts, bringing excellent reviews from all who turned out to see them.
Some comments have already started to appear on the guest book and the Bands My Space sites and they will give you some idea.
Most comments I heard included how relaxed the Band looked and comfortably they played within the new line up.
If you missed these first gigs then you will be kicking yourself as the guys played their sock off, however, there is plenty more to come (with the New CD launch going so well, initial sales have been very encouraging), as I have never heard the guys being so positive about the Bands future.
Forthcoming gigs appear as always on this site, Ents 24 and Blues in Britain gig guides plus the Guys have already earmarked studio time in December for the recording of their next Original CD with new material already being worked on.
So there we are, as Blue on Black takes another positive step, I look forward to travelling alongside them and hope to see you all along the way - As always, see you all on the road.

A view from the Bridge !
Hi Chaps
Just a line to say thanks for a wonderful gig on the night of our silver wedding.
Along with Cuillin Blue you provided an excellent evening of music.
The mega jam with both bands was awesome and people here are still taking about it, and all are waiting for your August 4th gig here at The "BRIDGE ON" which could be one of our last music nights, as you know we are leaving for sunny Portugal sometime soon.
Although we were dissappointed not to have Alan here for the gig (we wish him well) Tony was a brilliant replacement a real "Animal" on the drum kit.
Thanks again hope you like the attached picture (copies waiting here for you) Cheers Steve and Carol - Licensee's Bridge on Wool

1st gig for the New Line Up........
Well the Band with its new line up got away to a fantastic start last night as anyone who was at The Union Saltash can tell you.
Despite Elton John playing just 5 miles away (complete with a 22,000 strong audience apparently paying between 60 and 80 pounds each!) the fabulous Union filled up with the usual enthusiastic and discerning audience, all waiting for the Band to start (some fans travelling over 700 miles to see the new line up, thanks John).
And just after 9.00pm the stage erupted into an evening of Weapons Grade Blues/Rock.
From the very first bars of Seventh Son it was obviously going to be a night to remember with the new boy Tony Toms fired up and playing like he had been on the Road with the Boys for years.
It was great to see how into the music he was, obviously enjoying the whole night (just by the smiles on his face) and working closely with Steve and Keith to explore every direction of the music.
He certainly played his socks off (despite being understandably very nervous) and was an instant success with the audience who marvelled as the way he had stepped into the drum seat and delivered such a powerful performance, especially when they knew he had only had just 8 hours rehearsal !
The audience were very responsive and vocal from the first number to the last giving the Band a wonderful reception that continued on past 11.15pm when they were very adamant in urging to Band to play an encore (always a compliment at the Music Shrewd Union ).
After Brian had signalled his approval (bless him) the boys obliged the crowd with a breath taking version of JJ Cales Magnolia, truly a moving moment and one of the best versions I have heard them do for a long time (and I have heard quite a few).
At the end of this stunning gig, the Band spent a long time being congratulated by everyone on the overall performance and specifically at how well Tony had fitted in with Boys bringing his own style to the Band.
So there you are, if you were there you will know how good the night was and if you were not there, well sadly you missed another historical milestone in Blue on Blacks history.

Caution Moving Doors .................
Sound of One Door Closing June 2002 to May 2007
For some months now, the Band has been aware of Alans health and its possible fragility and to some extent Steve and Keith tried to compensate (taking the Lion's share of Loading/Unloading/Driving etc.) to help things last for the longest possible time.
However, following the four fantastic nights in east Anglia at the beginning of this month, we returned home for Alan to have more tests followed by a Dr recommendation that unless he changed his lifestyle radically, things could go past a point of no return.
Therefore, with this recommendation to stop playing and undergo rest, more tests and treatment, it was with great sadness that Alan made the decision on 02/05/07 to stop playing with immediate effect after 5 fabulous years with Blue on Black.
Steve and Keith completely understood and backed Alans decision totally (after all we are talking about a very dear friend here not just a great percussionist).
However, as all of us have always regarded the Band as being bigger than the sum of its three parts, the only decision that could be made by all, was for the Band to continue with a different drummer.
We had some fantastic help & support from close friends who suggested candidates and supplied contact details, numbers etc. (very many thanks to them - they know who they are) and with Alan heading off to France (for some months of peace & rest) Steve and Keith cancelled two imminent gigs (first time in the Bands history !) and many auditions were held.
Sound of One Door Opening May 2007
We were truly surprised with the number and quality of people who came forward to play and after many late nights and early mornings of auditioning, we are now extremely pleased to announce the name of Blue on Blacks new percussionist.

His name is Tony (Toms) Thomas and he is not only a wonderful drummer but a truly nice guy as well with a fine sense of humour (just as important as technique in the selection criteria).
Tony has played with many Bands over his 40 plus years and has a real feel for his drumming (playing from the heart ) and both Steve and Keith had no hesitation in selecting Tony as the third member of Blue on Black.
He is very much his own man, with his own style and has already started to make a real and positive contribution to Blue on Blacks future - we wouldn't want it any other way.
The new Band is working hard towards being gig tight for its debut on Saturday 26/05/07 before settling down to business as usual and working on some brand new material to bring into the set very soon.
As always there is a combined determination that Blue on Black will continue to go from strength to strength with Alan remaining a close friend and part of the Band (just in a different way).
We hope you will join Steve and Keith in welcoming Tony to Blue on Black and continue to give the Band the wonderful support you've previously shown us ?
So there we are, despite the Sound of One Door Closing (helping Alan to retire), we are also very excited as a New Door Opens for Blue on Black 's with Tony now driving the Percussion seat.
Very best wishes, we all hope to see you on the circuit very soon
Keith, Steve, Tony & Big Blue
Hurry, Hurry, Hurry, This Show is selling out FAST ......
With a line up like this I guess its only to be expected that Tickets are already flying out of the door...
Make sure you don't miss this unique night of the Best in Blues Rock,

New CD Reviews from "Rorys Friends" in Germany
Brought to you via our good friend $20 Bill here is a review of the Bands two CDs as posted on his site dedicated to Rory Gallagher and Blues Rock
www.rorysfriends.de
It's translated from the original German so please make allowances for Babel Fish and its limitations:
Cornwall in England is the homeland of the Blues/Rock Power Trio Blue on Black
Blue on Black are
Keith Howe (Guitar Vocals),
Alan Ibbotson (Drums&Vocals) and
Steve Jones (Bass&Vocals)....
Although they have produced three CDs to date including an earlier Live-album "Good to Go", they have only released two of them so far (the third In Transit another Live CD, is due out shortly.
However, I will begin with the Turning Up their Studio CD, which comprises of 12 Songs, all original to the Band.
Clear influences of SRV, Jimi Hendrix, Roy Buchanan and naturally RORY GALLAGHER, can be heard throughout their music.
Songs like Black Cadillac remind me very much of Billy Gibbons - ZZTop. guitar work.
Outstanding with the back line working overtime to produce such a full sound!
Big Boss, with its very strong Slide Guitar, is how I like to hear my Blues Rock and as a singer Keith Howe truly convinces.... keep Rory alive!
Overall the CD is very reminiscent of the style of British Blues Rock of the 70s and is therefore timeless.
Skilful riffs ride easily on top of a carpet of power chords. Guitar perfect......
Also a strong ballad not to be missed is Angel on Hold, unexpected from such a Power Trio but which constitutes however in my opinion, a good song.
Result: Well, the mix could be better with the singing too much in the foreground but the Booklet is beautifully made and I am sure I will be playing this C.D. many more times.
Now to the forthcoming live-album In Transit which really separates the wheat from the chaff!! ...
I know now why the Band was asked to play with Deep Purple, Peter Frampton and Walter Trout etc.
Live CDs can show Bands at there best (just like Cream) and as for this one ... WOW, WOW, WOW... Blues Rock of another dimension.
Images are conjured up again of Our Rory.
Delicate riffs to exciting dynamics set the mood throughout here.
I can also see why they have played alongside Joe Bonamassa as the playing on the whole CD is inspired.
The Slide Guitar passages on the tracks Shot Gun Blues/ Hoochie Coochie Man are absolute Killers!!!, but Mesa Blues...absolutely inspired.
Result:
Blue on Black are great (I was convinced from the first to the last number) and essential to see live.
I for one hope to get the opportunity to see and hear them very soon.
My thanks to Black on Blue for the CDs which you can order via their website
Blues and greetings, your friend 20$bill

News from the Front (and the back as well if you look really closely !).
I thought I would post this while its quiet (well relatively quiet) as Ive left the Boys making their sandwiches and packing for our next few days away (their second trip up to East Anglia this month).
Its been an exciting few days for the guys (and thats never a good sign for me - Hyperactive normally, it becomes like trying to control a bus load of Ferrets in season, whenever gigs come in and we do seem to have had quite a flurry recently, phew!
Firstly, the Guys are very excited to be opening up for Walter Trout again during his October UK dates.
Dates confirmed so far : 4/10/07 at The Arts Centre, Exeter, 5/10/07 Truro Rock N Blues Festival, Truro (along with The Hamsters) and 28/10/07 at The Junction Cambridge, with other dates still to come in.
Secondly the Boys have some tentative dates in September (exact details still being finalised) North of the Border, in and around Aberdeen and Glasgow, so please keep your eyes on the web pages for more details
Thirdly the Band has been approached to play at next years South by South West Festival in Austin Tx. USA. Its still early days but talks are going on with potential sponsors etc. so again keep your eyes/ears open for more developments.
Other local gigs that have arrived recently include a couple of spots during the St Ives (Cornwall) Fringe Festival, more East Anglia dates in July and October, Helstonbury Music Festival and DOH !!!! I had better go, the Guys are stirring, Keiths just shut Alans Teddy in the Washing Machine - set to fast spin whilst Steve is mesmerising Alan by opening and closing his wallet !!!
Please feel free to check out the rest of the gigs on line at www.blueonblack.co.uk www.myspace.com/blueonblackuk

Birthday Wishes to a Very Special Friend.
Blue on Black send their very best wishes to their dear friend Don Loadsby for his Birthday on Monday 23/04/07.

It's St Georges Day and what a fitting Birthday for such a Lionheart.
Happy Birthday Buddy, see you next week - Keith, Alan and Steve
..And an Artist in a Walnut Tree...
Well it was a very hectic but fabulous few days in the beautiful county of Norfolk.
Starting with a fantastic night at The Walnut Tree (Norwich), Ending with an amazing gig at Elme Hall (Wisbech) and with Robin Elvins 50th Birthday Party in-between., the Boys played four red hot gigs renewed acquaintances with lots of old friends and made many, many more new ones.......

The Band presented Robbie with a special present of a brand new song, Unsaid Robbies Blues, inspired by the Artists awesome talents.

The Song was very well received by the many who heard it and had extensive airplay over the weekend being broadcast on the many local and national radio stations.
The final gig at Elme Hall was a Rockin afternoon with the Band in Holiday mood and really enjoying themselves and at one point they invited up the daughter of a friend of theirs who helped out with guest vocals on the Bands Black Cadillac.

Kay Money and Alan - Perfect Harmonies on Black Cadillac.
The boys left for home with an audience roaring for more.
They will not have too long to wait as the Band return to East Anglia at the end of the Month

Away days in East Anglia..
With cries of - Are we there Yet, - already coming from the back of the Transit, the Band are busy loading up the van for another adventure into The Fen Lands (the first of two trips this month).
With gigs starting at the fantastic Walnut Tree Shades (seminal Blues/Rock venue, small and intimate but with a wonderful atmosphere) and ending at the marvellous Elme Hall Hotel Blues/Rock Club they are really looking forward to the trip.
On Saturday night the band have been asked to perform at their good friend Robin Elvins Birthday Bash (alongside some other fabulous artists and friends) which should be a great evening culminating in a Mega Jam towards the end of the night/early hours of the morning.
The Band have made a special present for Robbie of a brand new song, Unsaid / Robbies Blues, inspired by his awesome talent.
Although destined to become part of their forthcoming studio CD, Saturday will be the first time this track will be heard publicly when the boys hand over a special commemorative copy for Robin at his 50th Birthday Party.
So with all their buckets, spades, trunks and oh yes guitars and drums packed, its just left for me to make the cheese and onion sandwiches before we set off - talk to you when we get back

As One Door Closes....
Trouping off to Troubadour.
Well as the New Live C.D. In Transit gets put to bed heading for an April release, this weekend saw the Band commence the recording of their next Studio CD (The title of which is still under wraps and No, not Tortilla Wraps Alan).
The guys have chosen to work with Chris Grey at the fabulous Troubadour Studios, in Falmouth (thats down here in Gods Country for those of you who need to ask ).
With a work in progress of 14 new originals under their belt (I am soooooooo so glad they were not just pleased to see me !) the guys started off this next release with a great weekends work.
The Boys came away very pleased with the results, leaving poor old Chris phoning around builders for studio renovation estimates.
So then, Best Started, Soonest Finished as they say and I will keep you up to date as things progress.
Suffice to say for now the first cut is a very powerful Slow Fuse Burning / Weapons Grade Blues (in 6/8 time according to Alan ?) with the working title of Unsaid / Robbies Blues.
I sat in through the whole weekend session (extra Valium being available) and all Im prepared to say at the moment is WOW.

"I have seen the future and its .. Blue on Black"
Now I know that we had a good night, but when this email arrived from Dave, well we just had to share it with you all .............
17/2/07 Blue On Black with Larry Miller at The Watering Hole, Perranporth..
Well, where do I start to review this great gig between two Fantastic Bands at the top of their Game !
Im down from Putney for the weekend, visiting some relations.
I hear that Larry miller is on just a few miles away, great some Blues Rock before heading back to London!
After watching a gorgeous sunset over Perran beach (accompanied by some very agreeable chilled Chardonnay) I head inside The Watering hole, fantastic venue right on the beach and buzzin, just like some London venues used to.
The crowd was growing and there was a great air of anticipation, someone says that there is a Band on before Larry, which they have seen before, and their bloody good
Good, they were F*C*ING AWESOME.
Being able to see and hear these guys up-close and personal in an intimate atmospheric venue like The Watering hole was an incredible experience, one that any Blues/Rock should not have missed.
The phenomenon that is Blue on Black exudes both talent and passion that have no bounds.
The Band has that incredible extra something, the kind of charisma that is only found in the truly great.
Think Cream in their heyday, early Zepplin, big ballsy American type blues and your getting close to the right ball park, they really are that good.
Blistering through a 40-minute set of original class material sprinkled with some great covers (including their awesome rendition of the Kenny Wayne Shepherd song Blue on Black, and the, Hear a pin drop of J.J. Cales Magnolia) they literally held the audience in the palm of their hands.
This Band will make a huge impact soon, it was a real pleasure and privilege to be a part of their show that night, the guys I went with are still talking about it.
For me (and a lot of last Saturdays audience) Bands like Blue on Black represent the best of the best in Brit Blues /Rock as previously sold back to the USA in the 60s.
This may well have been the best gig I will see this year (unless of course I am lucky enough to catch them again) it will certainly be one of the most memorable.
Thanks Keith, Steve and Alan for an AWESOME night and yes the C.D. has not left the player since Saturday night.

10/2/07 Cuillin Blue with Blue On Black.
While a lot of the country watched the weather, a nearly full house at Lancashire's Arts Centre The MET, watched an Electric set of Blues Rock courtesy of Cuillin Blue and Blue on Black.
The following extract from a review by Greig Adamson is for those who were unfortunate enough to miss a fantastic evening:
Extract from review by Greig Adamson please check out his website http://www.greigadamson.com/ for the full review.
Following the interval was Blue On Black's bit. The three piece have gigged in tNorth several times and always sell out when they're in the area.
These lads are amazing to watch, the drummer Alan Ibbotson has to be seen (and heard) to be believed. I always thought that Rick Lacey was a loud drummer until I saw this guy in action. He uses a pneumatic drill to hit the snare. From the second they are on stage, the drums kick in during the introduction and then bang, it's into their first song.
The Bass player Steve Jones stands legs apart and does not budge for the whole hour (his nick-name's The Rock). A great bit of banter comes between Alan and Keith with added jibes like, That's what you get when you give the drummer a mic... The Lads were on form and the hour's music flew by.
The last chunk was a merging of the two bands, Cuillin Blue On Black. Marsha shared vocals with Chris and Keith, guitarists Pete Scullion and Keith Howe duelled and gelled with perfection. Rick Lacey ran around the stage with his camera, Chris Cullen picked up a guitar and Kelvin Barlow hopped between the harmonica and keyboards.
The whole atmosphere at The Met was wondrous, the gang on the stage having just as much fun as the hundred plus appreciating great live music. Midnight came and my ears had the hum of a great night's music. Cuillin Blue and Blue on Black will be appearing at The Ramsbottom Blues Festival in June.
What an amazing night.

"Well if you were anywhere near St Ives Guildhall on Thursday evening you would have been swept along by the 450 plus people who revelled in an evening of Red Hot Blues Rock courtesy of The Hamsters, Blue on Black and Flick Promotions.
As part of the internationaly renown St Ives Festival Fortnight, both Bands put on a fantastic show with an awesome original set from Blue on Black followed by The Hamsters in Jimi Hendrix/ZZ Top mode.
A widly enthusiastic audience (calling veraciously for more when the boys stopped) were treated to some of the tightest and poweful blues/rock I have heard for many a gig by the fabulous Blue on Black leaving the night perfectly primed for Slim, Otis and ZaZa to Rock the evening out in their usual professional style.
The sound was A1 and all in all I can't remember when I've heard better, heads were definitely banging during and after the performances.
As a personal freind of Blue on Black I cant help marvelling at the way they just get better and better each time I see them and I know that something better is waiting for them just around the corner.

Blues Matters hosts another Concert Review of our " Met" gig on 21/04/06
Further to Greig's review below, you can find a further concert review of our gig at The Met on the Blues Matters site (http://www.bluesmatters.com/modules.php?name=Reviews) which contains the following extract:
"In no time at all there was a changeover, probably one of the fastest and smoothest I have seen , a credit to the organisers and stage crew and we were treated to an hour of driving Blues from Cornwalls finest, Blue on Black.
They opened with their version of Crossroads and powered out the old classic.
Their set was a mixture of covers and their own material, they had real drive and were evidently enjoying themselves, despite a very long journey up.
Their drummer, Alan Ibbotson holding down the beat with his left foot on the Hi-Hat and using another set of hats on his right hand side.
They call their Bass player Steve Jones The Rock justifiably so, as his playing is rock solid and he stands like a rock as well!
Keith Howe is a superb frontman, witty and instantly likeable, he plays and sings really well and the three combined entertained the whole audience for another very fast hour, time really does fly!"

No Money Down, Blue on Black, Colehouse Walker Band.
"With having to work over Easter Bank Holiday and missing all of the Burnley Blues Fest, it was nice to see a packed Met for the third Blues Club Meet. We even had to sit in our allotted seats, even though they were up in the Gods. It's always a great atmosphere there, full of people who appreciate live music.
When Blue on Black took to the stage they blew everybody's socks off. The three piece comprising Keith Howe on vocal and lead, Steve "The Rock" (because he stands like one) Jones on bass and the amazing Alan Ibbotson on drums.
The sound the three guys perform is amazing, this is what live music is all about. Most of their set was original material, easy to pick up and great to hear. Steve and Alan were locked together, two musicians became one; they are a perfect bed for Keith's stunning guitar work.
The lads are from Cornwall, so it's a rare treat when they're up North. Their set, cut down to an hour was excellent."
Thanks Greig, we enjoyed it too as I hope you can see from some of the photos taken by the one and only Kenny Money.

For anyone lucky enough to be at The Falmouth Pavillions gig on 15/02/06 they will have witnessed a stunning evening of Blues/Rock from two outfits at the top of their game.
Blue on Black started the evening with a stunning set (brim full of their own wonderful material) and showing just how tight and powerful this Band has become.
The powerhouse rhythm section of Alan Ibbotson and Steve Jones laid the foundations for some memorable Band performances and distinctive soloing from Keith Howe.
Their set of 45 minutes seemed to fly bye and concluded to rapturous applause from an audience that had been held spellbound but who were now very vocal in demanding more.

But time was moving on and so it was Joe Bonamassa's turn.
With the Band set to stun, Joe eased his new line up into top gear showing no mercy for technique or convention.
At times the pace and power was almost too much to believe, but the audience basked in the warmth and passion of the night, gave Joe and his band the welcome he deserved.
All too soon things were at an end despite an encore the crowd wanted the evening to last forever, calling for both bands to continue.
It was wonderful to see members of both Bands alongside each other in the Foyer after the gig signing and selling merchandise and speaking to the many freinds they had both made that night.
That's it then, truly an evening of Jaw Dropping proportions showing just how close to perfection good three piece Blues/Rock Bands can get and certainly an experience to tell your Granchildren about - believe me, you missed this one at your own expense.

Following the Bands very succesful gig alongside Walter Trout and the Radicals at The Wharf - Tavistock, Devon on the 23/10/05, Keith had the great honour to be invited by Walter to Jam with him during his gig at The Falmouth Pavillions - Cornwall on 27/10/05.
It was great to hear them both ripping into a smokin' slow blues in E, a memorable moment and a wonderful time had by all.
Big Blue.

BLUE ON BLACK Turning Up
Independent Release. 12 tracks. 46.58 mins.
Blue On Black are a three piece blues/rock band comprising Keith Howe: guitar and lead vocals, Alan Ibbotson: drums, percussion & vocals and Steve Jones: bass and vocals.
All the material is self-penned, the songs were recorded in Newquay, but their hearts seem to be on the other side Atlantic.
The sound is gritty and Blue On Black's solid workmanlike approach is perfect for the pub rock scene, although a more international status is suggested in pictures depicting opening for Deep Purple and on stage in the USA.
The opening track "Bad-ass dude" name-checks the Pontiac automobile. The acoustic slide of "King o' spades" is neat, but then the AC/DC influenced intro to "Smokin' gun" picks up one of the recurring themes, if not obsessions of a band on the road.
The cool rhythms of "Black cadillac" portray the atmospherics of interstate cruising, and indicates a cultural imagination way beyond the shores of Cornwall.
"Boys in trouble" is vintage Status Quo, followed by the vocal effects, slide and of course Shelby Mustang cruising though the standout "Big boss".
These boys certainly love their Yank Tanks.
The electronica of "Zbd" is another welcome interlude before more fuzz guitar and sly cynical lyrics of "Rock 'n' roll bitches".
Howe's clean guitar picking is more welcome on the moody "Cold wind blows" - the best track.
On a reflective overview, a mixed bag that balances some inventive highlights with a few rather more predictable songs.

Band open for Walter Trout
The Band had the great honour of making the pilgrimage to Wilbarston (Leicestershire UK) on Friday 12/08/05 to open up for the mighty Walter Trout and the Radicals.
What a night! The Boys were on fire and made many friends (and sold many CDs - special thanks to Heather Bryant for helping out on the Bands stall).
Playing around 45 minutes the sound was awesome as they stormed through many favourites such as "Black Cadillac", "Smokin Gun", etc. Audience reaction was superb and many friends were made that night.

Salcombe & Truro
Both great outdoor gig's for the band and supported by thousands of people who came to enjoy themselves and were not disappointed.
The Salcombe Festival saw the Band headlining on the Saturday Night and watched by a huge audience who rocked the night away – truly awesome.

Truro (Boscawen Park) was put on as a Family Day and the Boys entertained a mixture of ages from the very young to the very old with some of their best Rock and Blues material.
It was a local gig for them and lots of band T Shirts were in sight. The day's takings went to many local charities including the air ambulance so not only was it a great gig but also for the benefit of great causes.
